About

This qualification is designed to give graduates an understanding of the core concepts and practical skills in Information Technology (IT). Students will learn relevant skills that will set them up for further study and future employment.

Students who complete this certificate will be able to cross credit this qualification to the New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology (Technical Support) Level 5 which will contribute to 50% of the qualification.

What you will learn

Below you will find an outline of the modules required to gain this qualification and the skills you will acquire through completing each.

Module AD500 – Introduction to Application Development

  • Plan small applications using logic diagrams
  • Implement small applications using a programming tool
  • Demonstrate debugging and testing skills
  • Demonstrate problem-solving techniques using multiple skills

Module BD500 – Introduction to Business Analysis and Design

  • Describe the role and impact of IT within a business
  • Design and create a database, and use database tools to produce information.
  • Demonstrate principles of usability, user experience, and human computer interaction.
  • Demonstrate web design concepts including embedded media.

Module HS500 – Introduction to Hardware and System Software Support

  • Install and configure hardware to requirements
  • Install and configure system and application software to requirements
  • Diagnose common hardware and software errors found in a business environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of relevant legislation to a service environment
  • Apply personal and interpersonal skills in a service environment

Module NS500 – Introduction to Networking and Security

  • Install and configure a network in a small business environment
  • Describe the operation of a network
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of research skills to present a balanced argument on a given topic
  • Secure a network from threats
  • Give a presentation and produce a report on a given topic
  • Apply principles of the Treaty of Waitangi in a support environment
Qualifications you will gain

New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology Level 5

Further Study and Employment

Primarily, this qualification will equip people for further IT related study, and may also prepare people for employment in an entry level IT role. Students may wish to continue their studies with the New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology (Technical Support) Level 5.

Students who complete this certificate will be able to cross credit this qualification to the New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology (Technical Support) Level 5 which will contribute to 50% of the qualification.

Entry Requirements

Students must have gained NCEA level 2 or equivalent qualification.

Students who don’t meet these requirements may be offered the opportunity to sit a Numeracy and Literacy Assessment to ascertain suitability for the programme.

All students are admitted into this programme at Avomore’s discretion.
