a. Conditions of Acceptance

Students must be at least 18 years old and have met the English Language requirement (IELTS  Overall Band Score 5.5 or maybe accepted subject to passing the internal Avonmore English Language Test and attending an interview. These students will be required to undertake additional English study whilst studying their chosen course.) 

Complete the AVONMORE enrolment form and sign an agreement with AVONMORE accepting terms and conditions of study and conduct and have made payment in full prior to course commencement. An aptitude test may apply for some programmes verifying student suitability.

b. Course Fees

A registration fee of $150.00, paid at enrolment is essential to guarantee a position on a course. Students are required to make full payment for fees prior to commencement of the course, which is stated on the “Offer of Place”. Students will receive their official receipt in time to apply for their student visa. Please make payment to Avonmore Tertiary Academy. Payment can be made in the following ways:

• Telegraphic Transfer by your bank to Avonmore Tertiary Academy’s bank account. (Please refer to the details stated in your Offer of Place.)
• Or bank cheque/bank draft in New Zealand dollars, made out to “Avonmore Tertiary Academy” and post/deliver directly to Avonmore.
• Or Credit Cards (Visa or Master cards)
• Or Cash (We do not recommend you carry large amounts of cash for safety reasons)

Please note:

• Any additional bank charges per telegraphic transfer are to be met by sponsor/student.
• Avonmore will provide a statement with a breakdown of your course related costs after the course has commenced.

c. Code of Practice

AVONMORE has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education. Copies of the code are available on request from this institute or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at http://www.minedu.govt.nz/goto/international

d. Immigration - Student Visa and Permit

The New Zealand Immigration Service (NZIS) looks after Student Visas and Permits. International students must have a valid student visa and/or permit before coming to New Zealand to study. Students must apply for a new visa/permit before their present visa/permit expires.

• Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while study and reporting requirements are available through NZIS and can be viewed on their website www.immigration.govt.nz
• Note: NZIS has access to a FREE telephone interpreting service called Language Line. It operates from Monday to Friday, 10:00am to 6:00pm. When you contact NZIS either by phone or face to face while you are in New Zealand, just ask for Language Line and your language (for example: Language Line, Mandarin). Language Line is available in 35 languages. For further details go to: www.languageline.govt.nz

e. Eligibility for Health Services

Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health and can be viewed on their website at http://www.moh.govt.nz

f. Accident Insurance

The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at http://www.acc.co.nz

g. Health and Travel Insurance

International students must have appropriate and current health and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. You are required to provide Avonmore with proof of appropriate insurance from your home country or with a New Zealand provider.

Note: You do not require insurance to cover Fee Indemnity as Avonmore has an appropriate student fee indemnification arrangement in place.

AVONMORE reserves the right to decline an enrolment from an international student who has not presented appropriate and valid health and travel insurance for the period of his/her enrolment.

h. Qualifications

All courses and units offered by AVONMORE are nationally recognised and contribute toward National Certificates and Diplomas. All units achieved are recorded with New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and results are issued annually to students as a personal record of learning.

i. Student Fees Protection

All fees paid to AVONMORE within 2 weeks of course commencement are placed into a trust account (except for the lesser of $500 or 10% of the amount paid) until seven days after the first day of course commencement. This is in compliance with Section 236A of the Education Act 1989, and Education Amendment Act No.4 1991.

All remaining fees paid to AVONMORE up to 2 weeks prior to course commencement will be placed into a Fee Protection Account in full.

Students will receive a copy of their ‘Application to Establish a Student Fee Trust Account’, which includes a ‘Payment Schedule’ showing how their fees will be paid out to Avonmore Tertiary Academy over the length of the course they are enrolled in.

In the unlikely event of insolvency, regulatory or voluntary closure, student fee protection is assured to all AVONMORE students paying fees of over $500.00 and meets the requirements of NZQA. Students can view further information or access refunds of fees by contacting The Public Trust by calling 0800 494 733 or visiting http://www.feeprotect.co.nz.
NB: Notices will be posted on the NZQA website ( http://www.nzqa.govt.nz) regarding any meetings for students affected in the unlikely event of Avonmore’s closure.

j. Withdrawal and Refund Policies

Fees Refunds Prior to Course Commencement

If a student pays a deposit and withdraws at least 2 weeks prior to course commencement then a full, unconditional refund will be given.

• If a student withdraws within 2 weeks prior to course commencement a refund will be due less $500 or 10% of the total tuition fees��" whichever is the lesser.
• If no payment has been made prior to course commencement and a student withdraws within 2 weeks of course commencement, the student will be invoiced for $500 or 10% of the total tuition fee ��" whichever is lesser.

Fees Refunds After Course Commencement

• If a student withdraws within the first eight days after course commencement a fee refund will be due less $500 or 10% of the tuition fees ��" whichever is the lesser.

Note:

• If fees have not been paid this money is due to be paid to AVONMORE. You will be invoiced for the amount due.
• No refunds will be given from seven days after the first day of course commencement for all courses.
• Notice of withdrawal must be recorded in writing to the Course Administrator.
• The number of weeks is taken as the number of weeks completed, or part thereof at the time of notification of withdrawal made to the Administration Manager. Acceptance of your notice of withdrawal will be in writing and dated to the day of your withdrawal from the course.
• Any due refunds will be available within seven days of notice of withdrawal.

k. Bad Debts

Where money is due to Avonmore Tertiary Academy and not paid as due, or arrangements made and adhered to, Avonmore reserves the right to refer debts to a Debt Collection Agency. If this occurs all cost associated with debt collection will be added to the debt owed to Avonmore Tertiary Academy.

l. Accommodation

During your study in New Zealand you can choose between a numbers of accommodation options. The table below gives a brief explanation of the different sorts of accommodation available to international students.

• Homestay
  You live with a family in their home. Homestays are great for helping with your English because you will need to speak English at home. Mealtimes will be shared together. You will be treated like one of the family and expected to help out with household chores and to oblige to the rules set by your host parents such as curfews.
• Private Boarding
  You have your own room in a private residential home or boarding house. Meals are provided, and probably shared. You are free to come and go as you please. You may or may not be expected to help with household chores. You will usually be expected to care for your own room
• Flatting
  You rent a house or apartment (Any building where people live together, who are not a family or couple, is called a flat) either on your own or with others. Flats are usually unfurnished. You will have your own room, or may share with another. The rent is usually worked out according to the size of the room. All other expenses are divided; Cooking meals and cleaning are usually shared.
