Hospitality is one of the fastest growing and most diverse industries in the world. The industry is bright, bold and exciting, with potential to take you from a café in New Zealand to a bar on the other side of the world.

The Hospitality Service course here at Avonmore aims to give you practical and theoretical skills to work in the hospitality industry.

This 12 week course has three main components:

  • Barista
  • Table Service
  • Counter Service
What You Will learn

Avonmore’s Hospitality Service course offers students the opportunity to learn a wide range of skills that will be important in gaining employment. Through completing the course students will learn about:

  • Presentation and preparation of various types of coffee and making methods including espresso
  • Counter service
  • Table service
  • Customer service
  • Front of house skills
  • Product knowledge
  • Food Hygiene and safety
  • Personal hygiene standards
Qualifications You Gain

After completing the Hospitality Service course at Avonmore you will gain:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service Level 3
Further Study and Employment

After studying Hospitality Service at Avonmore you will have the skills that the industry requires to gain employment. Some of these jobs could include:

    • Front of House
    • Barista
    • Room Attendant

Students now have the opportunity to continue their training at Avonmore with the National Diploma in Hospitality Management.

With regards to further study after completing the Hospitality Service course at Avonmore you could continue on to complete the Hospitality and Business Management course we offer. If you were to complete this course you would also get a discount off the course fees for already having completed the practical service component. Entry Requirements

To gain access to the Avonmore Hospitality Service course we assess your NCEA/school achievements to date, this allows us to ensure you have the literacy and numeracy skills necessary to complete the course. As a minimum you ideally need to have achieved NCEA Level 1.

Students aged 16 to 19 years of age may be able to access the Youth Guarantee programme offered by Avonmore if they have a qualification under Level 3. For more information please contact us.

So how much is it going to cost you?

For 2017 the tuition fees for Hospitality Service are $1940 plus $285 for course related costs. Currently Avonmore is offering students the opportunity to apply for Free Fees. Please contact us for more details.
